Report: GUNS N' ROSES Leaker Arrest Signals Tougher Stance On Music Piracy
August 28, 2008According to The Wall Street Journal, the Federal Bureau of Investigation's arrest of a Los Angeles man on copyright-infringement charges for posting on his web site nine songs from GUNS N' ROSES' yet-to-be-released album "Chinese Democracy" signals what could be a more aggressive stance in the fight against online music piracy.
The case represents "the beginning of an effort to be more aggressive," said Kathy Loedler, the RIAA's (Recording Industry Association of America) director of investigations for the western region, adding that the industry wanted to add bite to its existing strategy. "When we tell somebody to just take it down and there's no penalty, there's no arrest, there's no fine, it's very easy for them to continue to do it."
